Dr Raja Badrakalimuthu became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2007 and has been on the Specialist Register with the General Medical Council since 2012. He has worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist across community, inpatient, and acute hospital services, and has led specialist clinics for cognitive disorders, young-onset dementia, treatment-resistant affective disorders, neuromodulation, and esketamine treatments.
His qualifications include a Clinical Certificate in Psychopharmacology from the British Association for Psychopharmacology, a Master’s in Neuroscience, a Master’s in Medical Education, a Diploma in the History of Medicine, and a Diploma in Legal Medicine. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2019 and has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2013, and of the Royal Society of Medicine since 2015.
Dr Badrakalimuthu has held several leadership and educational roles, including College Tutor for the psychiatry training scheme, Foundation Programme Director for Health Education England (Wessex), and Associate Medical Director for Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where he was responsible for Older Adult Services from 2019 to 2022.
Dr Badrakalimuthu also serves as an External Advisor to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and as a Specialist Trustee for the charity Dementia Carers Count.
